The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche

By Zena Greene View ProfileThis is one of those books that most people know of, and may well have dipped into, at some time. It is a chunky book, with a lot to say, and can appear to be intimidating. This edition is the revised and updated tenth anniversary edition, and a very beautiful book. My copy arrived on exactly the day that I needed to immerse myself in something like this – and there probably aren't any better texts, anywhere. But you do need to be in the right frame of mind for a book like this. So, if you want to read this book and do it justice (and allow it to work its magic upon you) then make a conscious decision to take a few days off, time for yourself, where you can keep work to a minimum, sit in the sun, read this book, and contemplate the universe. As far as I know, that really is the only way to read a book as powerful and important as this one. You will not be disappointed, if you take this approach with it, and the benefits and rewards of allowing yourself time and space to absorb Sogyal Rinpoche's beautiful words are immense.
Everyone takes something different away from a book like this one, but it is definitely a book that can speak to everyone, if we let it. Make reading this book a special occasion in your life, and give yourself space to read it through. Then, whenever you want to, it will be there as a treasure to fall back upon, and dip into, in the future.
Highly recommended reading.
