Shaman, Healer, Sage by Alfred Villoldo
Information: 238 pages, paperback
They say: 'A step-by-step manual set against a bewitching backdrop of hair-raising, Castaneda-esque tales...Villoldo's writing is smart, lucid and lyrical' Alberto Villoldo, a classically trained medical anthropologist, has studied shamanic healing techniques among the descendants of the ancient Incas for the past twenty years. Now, in Shaman, Healer, Sage he draws on his vast body of knowledge and experience to create a practical and revolutionary healing programme based on traditional methods that have existed for more than 5,000 years but which, until now, have been inaccessible to most of the world. In this remarkable exploration, Villoldo explains key concepts of shamanic healing, such as the Luminous Energy Field that is believed to surround our material bodies. As he teaches us how to see and influence the imprints that disease leaves on this field, he gives us a unique opportunity to heal others and ourselves. Here, too, he explores the subject of life beyond death, navigating this mysterious, unseen world with the knowledge of a scientist and the wisdom of a shaman.

Reviews - rated 4/5 based on customer reviews4 out of 5 By Vernon MarshallI have a number of books on Shamanism, but the quality of them has varied enormously. This short book by Alberto Villoldo is of a better quality than many. It is not a "you-can-do-anything" type of book that claims to make you a shaman in a few weeks but a clearly explained description of the fundamentals of Shamanism and how they are integrated into a working practice. It is made clear that the reader cannot become a shaman without years as an apprentice with an experienced practitioner. The energy referred to can bring chaos if wrongly utilised. Nevertheless, the "luminous energy field" has great potential, and the writer demonstrates this with experiences from his Shamanistic practice. The book is the clearest explication of the Chakras that I have read for some time, with indications of how they are integral to different aspects of life, including death and dying.
At £7.99 (RRP) and with less than 250 pages, this book is a real treasure for those who wish to understand Shamanism better, and for those who are considering seeking to serve life by training in the Shamanism arts.
