Are There Any Issues I Should Be Concerned About Before Ordering Online?
Yes there are things you should look out for before ordering from an internet site. You should try and evaluate whether you believe the company to be trustworthy. Do you believe they will deliver your goods in the manner that they say they will?
There are a number of ways that can help make that decision:
Check whether contact details (especially address and telephone) are clearly displayed. If you have your doubts you can even telephone them first. (See our "Contact us" page for our details.)
What is the quality and expansiveness of their website? If you can find lots of products, lots of information, good photos etc. and it is clear a lot of development has gone into the website, it is unlikely they are cowboys set to rip you off. Why make such an effort because if they are ripping off customers they will soon be denied permission to take further credit card transactions.
Do they have testimonials from existing customers who can testify to their reliability? (We publish testimonials - with permission. Please click the Testimonials link on the top navigation bar to see ours.)
Do they send email confirmation of order? (We send confirmation of the amount your credit/debit card is debited to you immediately by email.)
Try and evaluate how long they have been in business. Obviously the longer the better as they are probably more financially secure. (We have been trading online since September 2000)
Are they displaying a VAT number? If they are this doesn't guarantee anything absolutely but it does mean their turnover is above a certain amount and means they are at least registered as a company. Our VAT number is displayed at the bottom of our home page along with our address information.
The above isn't really rocket science. These are the kind of decisions we make all the time. In many ways ordering over the internet (when done properly) is more secure than ordering goods over the telephone, because when ordering over the phone your credit card number will be exposed to any number of people within the company who are involved in processing your order. With us your details are stored securely and in order to fulfil your order our staff don't need to see your card details. We are just told that your payment has been accepted by Barclays.
We hope the above reassures you. If you need to know more please email us at email@example.com.
