A very light, barely perceptible aroma, slightly sweet and nutty.
Size: 100 ml (Comes in a plastic bottle)
Other information: Cold pressed
Colour: Virtually clear with a tinge of golden yellow.
Texture: A fine, light oil which absorbs fairly quickly, leaving a slightly oily, yet not unpleasant feeling to the skin.
Points of interest: A classic oil, used in ancient Rome to beautify the skin and treat injuries. It is obtained from the nut of the tree, and is native to Asia and the Mediterranean.
Uses: Almond oil is beneficial to all skins, regardless of type or age, and has excellent lubricating and reasonable penetrating properties, therefore having a nourishing, pampering and protecting effect. It is particularly helpful for dry, sensitive skins, eczema, itching, soreness, swelling, burns, thread veins and inflammation. Another use is the removal of make-up and protection against the elements, particularly the sun and wind, and it is suitable for hot packs. The large molecules in this oil make it heavier, and therefore suitable for making a very moisturizing cream or salve.
Notes: Considered to be a reasonably-priced, good all-purpose carrier oil for use with essential oils. It is rich in protein and contains glucosides, oleic and linoleic acid, minerals including copper and iron, and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Vegetable carrier oils should be cold pressed as if they are heated they lose their therapeutic benefits. As oppose to essential oils, carrier oils can go rancid. Almond oil has an approximate shelf life of ten months, although the vitamin E content is reputed to help preserve it. It is advisable to use blends made with it well within the recommended shelf life, keeping them tightly sealed in a cool dark place. Adding a vitamin E capsule slows down the oxidation process. This oil can be used alone or you can blend it with other oils, making more expensive carrier oils go further.
Safety precautions: Can be used 100% strength. Must be avoided by anyone with an allergy to nuts.
A base oil or carrier oil is an oil that can be used for massage by itself or as a carrier for pure essential oils. The addition of these essential oils gives the oil an aroma which will have a positive impact upon health in way that depends upon your choice of oils. A recommended amount would be up to six drops of pure essential oil into 10-15 ml (about 2-3 teaspoons) of base oil. Vegetable oils used in aromatherapy should be cold pressed or refined without the use of chemical agents (all ours are) as some vegetable oils in supermarkets may have been extracted with the help of a chemical agent.
About Holisticshop Own Brand Oils:
Originally the Holisticshop range of oils went under the name of Windflowers. This company was founded by a qualified aromatherapist, selling high quality oils to shops and aromatherapists throughout UK and the world. In October 2003 the opportunity came up for Holisticshop to buy Windflowers, which we did. This acquisition has meant Holisticshop customers can now buy high quality oils at the price professional aromatherapists would expect to pay. These are aromatherapist quality oils. Lower quality oils are available on the market but we continue to pick the best quality source for every oil. For example Windflowers lavender oil is "High Alpine" lavender from Mount Ventoux in the Pyrennes and the ylang ylang is the "complete" oil, not the ylang ylang II or III which come from a different stage in the distillation process.
