Premium Frankincense Resin (Boswellia Sacra)

This frankincense is collected by local farmers in Somalia. The quality of Somalian frankincense is well known. You will find both smaller and slightly larger pieces in this packet. If using charcoal discs to burn the resin larger pieces can be quite handy as they do tend to burn a little longer. (For the boswellia sacra frankincense we do sell in both 50 and 250 gram packets. The frankincense is the same, it is just the weight that differs).

To burn the resin as an incense you need to have a heat source. Most people use a charcoal disc that is designed specifically for this purpose. The disc should be placed inside a heat resistant container with earth inside if required to shield the strong heat. Once alight the resin can be spooned gently placed onto the charcoal and the resin becomes an incense and the delightful aromas are released. You can then add more resin as required.

Our current batch of Frankincense Resin is Boswellia Sacra, also known as Boswellia Carteri - commonly called the 'Frankincense Tree', or the 'Olibanum Tree'.

Powder Option

Our powder is taken from our batch of resins and separated - it is exactly the same in quality, but just in a different form. Some find this easier to use to sprinkle onto a charcoal disc. To use this powder, simple take a pinch of frankincense powder and sprinkle over hot charcoal.

Chunky Option
As well as our 'normal' Frankincense option, plus our powder option we also do a 'chunky' version. Still taken from the same batch, this is exactly the same, it is just 'chunkier'! This can still be broken up if you prefer and burnt on a charcoal disc.

More About Frankincense
Frankincense (also called olibanum) comes from trees of the boswellia family that grow in dry regions of north-east Africa in often rocky, sandy soil and usually reach a maximum of 6m tall. There are a number of varieties of frankincense trees, each producing a slightly different resin with varying characteristics. The trees grow in a variety of odd looking shapes, making them distinctive and easy to spot. The resin is extracted by making a small shallow incision in the trunk or branches and then the resin hardens on contact with air and is collected by hand.

Frankincense resin is light coloured and yellowy and when burnt it produces a rich, dense fragrance. It's one of the best fragrances to burn for cleansing and clearing, as it can clear and refresh even the toughest and worst atmospheres. It's good for clearing a room of other people's left-behind energy, or a new house if you're about to move in and make it your own.

It's also particularly good for people who are working on their spiritual progress and want to clearly open up to higher spiritual elements, as it can help communication on a higher plane. Additionally, it has warming and relaxing properties and is a good choice for dealing with stress.

Frankincense is notably mentioned several times in the Bible, and it was one of the gifts taken to the baby Jesus by the three kings. In Judaic and Islamic faiths frankincense mixed with oils is sometimes used to anoint newborn infants as frankincense is seen to represent life.

Safety note: Never leave unattended. Do not place container on flammable surface. Keep away from children and pets and do not ingest. Dispose of charcoal safely.

Staff Review by Brett Almond

I have spent a long time searching to get frankincense resin that we can be proud of! It is possible to get frankincense from many different countries, in many different sizes and also with different amounts of freshness as it depends when the frankincense was gathered as to how fresh it is.

We now buy our frankincense resin in bulk to ensure we can buy it when it is freshest and also to get as close to the source as possible so we know the origins of what we are selling. We then weigh it out into simple plastic bags. The smell is divine and because it is natural the sizing will vary of the nuggets. We burn this a lot in the office. Personally I find it preferable to the Priory Frankincense we sell with the charcoal discs.

    First Time Using

Posted by Michael Hiles on 4th Sep 2019

I have never tried frankincense resin before, and was keen to try it. What a beautiful aroma it gives off. When you smell the resin before burning it doesn't seem all that fragrant, but once you start burning it, then the aroma really lets itself be known. Sweet but not sickly, strong but not over-powering. A real relaxing fragrance. The resin comes in little pebble-like chunks of varying sizes, and is really great value for money. I will be getting some more of this as my stocks run low.

    Good quality frankincense

The item (a 250g bag) was well packaged and arrived one day after order. This is good quality frankincense which, like the service provided, I would recommend to anyone.

    Uplifting and exhilarating

Posted by Jacqui, East Dorset on 3rd Feb 2015

After not using it for a year I finally found my tin of old frankincense bought from Holisticshop, I had some charcoal blocks, so I have burnt it on the 31/1/15 and 1/2/15, as it's a Celtic Goddess`s and Irish Saint`s day, the following day was Candlemas, so in honour of that, it being full-moon to boot, I did a spiritual simple out and in spring clean. I started at the rear of the garden, and like the wassailing song, I claimed the area, for the goddess of the future coming spring, and summer, dispelling all negativities, and the cold winter, (it snowed on the following day 3/2/15)Then I exorcised the boundaries, again using a censer, in an Indian metal dish like they do in Christian and Catholic Churches, then blessed all boundaries shared by my pagan neighbours, then I did the inside of the home and hearth all around the windows, the chimney, doors, front door, then out to the front garden, driveway, and especially last of all, I left the censer on the front step to infuse the porch area, which is where all visitors, bird and human come, and has the most traffic! I found it uplifting and exhilarating, and made me feel, "born anew, like a new person" no wonder they use it in churches!!!!

    Brilliant product

Posted by Jacqui lover of owls, East Dorset on 21st Dec 2013

Brilliant product, have been buying and using this incense for several years, stored in an airtight tin lasts for ages, last used in bonfire on 5 Nov for a cleansing ritual. Fast delivery, ordered two packets end of this year and for new year, in case I run out! Only need one granule at a time, added carefully, gives one a lovely uplifting pure feeling. Prefer this to the Prinknish abbey one.

    Absolutely love it

Posted by Susan on 21st Jun 2011

Just received my frankincense this morning (& very quickly.) I did my research on the internet as I really wanted the authentic smell I had experienced in churches. In other words I wanted the real deal and nothing less. Well, this is it and first time lucky. I have never bought frankincense before as I always believed it wouldn't live up to my expectations. This frankincense is excellent. The previous reviews certainly helped make up my mind. I will burn a little bit less next time as I think I got carried away! Absolutely love it. Thanks and also for great customer service.

I will not frankincense from anywhere else

Posted by Ann O on 10th Nov 2010

Oh wow! This is superb. I will not buy frankincense from anywhere else. In fact, this is my second order of it from Holisticshop. It is the best I have ever used and I have bought loads in the past but none were as good as this. Keep up the good work and thank you so much.

    Not one has compared

Posted by M Huffen on 19th Nov 2009

I have bought a few Frankincense resins from a few different sites. Not even one has compared to this one. Our house is to say the least a little crazy at times, so I clear the energy quite often and this has turned out to be a little gem. Thank you. Love and Light.
