These beautiful limited edition painted feathers are by Navajo artist Phillip Nez. Feathers such as this can be used for smudging, or alternatively for decoration.
Each turkey feather is wrapped in deer skin leather, and a bead is attached to the end. The colour of each design will vary between each, take a look at our images to see what kind of styles and colours we have available. If you would like your feather to be of a certain colour, please let us know in your extra instructions upon checking out, and we'll do our best to pick one for you.
These feathers are collected from Turkeys raised on the Navajo reservation, by Philip Nez (who paints the feathers). They are all natural molted feathers, so no birds are killed for their feathers.
Size of Feather: Each may vary slightly due to being a unique and natural product, in general these tend to be approximately 21cm in length, and 5-6cm in width at the widest point.
More About the Symbol of the Feather
Feathers are used consistently throughout Native American crafts and ceremonial tools. Birds fly inbetween the earth and the sky and as such feathers represent this connection between us as humans and Great Spirit. Of course a feather is not essential to contact God or be in tune with Spirit. It is a tool - a reminder. Feathers are like a link. You can hold them while praying, you can use a feather to brush smudge smoke over you for cleansing the aura and can have them in crafts and jewellery about you to remind you that you are always connected to Spirit.
