Forest bathing, tea ceremonies, zen meditation, and more

About the Book

In a culture renowned for its quiet elegance and ancient wisdom, Japanese self-care offers a path to joy, tranquility, and acceptance. This practical guide presents time-honoured traditions that will provide you with mental clarity, emotional calmness, and deep gratitude.

Following an introduction to the Japanese way of life, including its cultural values and religious influence, the book takes a holistic approach to well-being. Discover gentle practices and philosophical concepts that bring harmony to this all-important triad - a healthy body, a balanced mind, and a fulfilled soul.

Through the warmth of healing onsen waters of the nourishments of traditional Japanese cooking, For the body invites you to reacquaint yourself with your sacred temple.

For the Mind introduces you to the practices of forest bathing and Zen meditation, and the philosophy of chadō - “the Way of Tea” 0 all of which will guide you toward a place of stillness, in which the mind can quiet.

Finally, in For the Soul, you will travel inward and nurture your inner being - through the principles of hogejaku, to stop holding on to what no longer serves you; wabi sabi, to appreciate the beauty in imperfections; and ikigai, to find your “reason for being”.

The history, meaning, and significance of each concept are explored, and Iris shares insights on how each one has shaped her life. The self-care rituals at the end of each section are an offering to you to connect with yourself, and a reminder that self-care is not an occasional treat, but a consistent and intentional daily practice.

The Book of Japanese Self-care encourages you to find a more grounded, present version of yourself: the person you are meant to be.

About the Author

Iris Law is an author, health and wellness practitioner, and specialist in Japanese wellbeing practices. She has traveled around Japan for over 25 years, studying and experiencing Japanese approaches to wellbeing, grounded in a deep understanding of its culture and traditions.
