These Goniatite fossil discs are circular, smooth to the touch and polished on the top surface. The underside has been left unpolished and slightly rough. Each disc is completely unique and one of a kind, no two will be alike.
They vary in colour and size, however we find that they are mostly a light sandy brown through to a darker rich brown colour. See below for more information on Goniatite and their history.
Size of Fossils: These vary between each, but they can be roughly 3-5cm in diameter.
Dictionary Terms Explained
Goniatites became extinct about 250 million years ago! They are shelled cephalopods related to squid, octopus, and belemnites. They were a free swimming animal possessing a head, eyes and tentacles. They are closely related to ammonites. They lived in the sea and seemed to like normal salinity. They are found in North America, Europe, North Africa and Australasia.
Fossils such as this remind us that energy is transmutable and cannot be destroyed and give us a sense of connection to ancient civilisations who would have also held fossils like these.
