Here we have five mini smudge sticks made from white sage. The end can be lit and will provide plenty of smoke. Once used you can extinguish the smudge stick by pushing it against a bowl or into some sand or earth. Be careful though as it can reignite.

We also sell larger white sage smudge sticks. These probably work out a little bit more cost effective in terms of the amount of white sage in them, but the advantage of the mini ones is they are a very handy size. We love the Juniper Ridge smudge sticks as we know they are collected in such a good way.

Country of Origin: California, USA

Size of Smudge Sticks: Each are roughly about 3.5 - 4" per stick (10-11cm).

Smudging is a ceremony used to clear away negative energies and to attract ones that are more positive. Native Americans have traditionally used many herbs for this purpose, each one having a different effect on the aura and inner being. You may burn a smudge stick directly from the end (extinguish carefully afterwards), or break off fragments to burn in a container such as a shell. When smudging, try to feel connected with a power greater than yourself. You may say prayers while using a feather, or simply the palm of your hand, to brush the smoke over you.

Smudge sticks can be used for cleansing of the aura, for example before meditation or prayer, or they quite often these days used by body workers and therapists. They can also be used for cleansing a house or dwelling and are often used in this way in Feng Shui.

About Californian White Sage
The home of Californian white sage (Salvia Alpine), a scrub plant with spiky flowers, is along the sun-washed coastline of Southern California.

Sage is a cleansing and purifying herb and can be used to help break up feelings of negativity. Traditionally, it's regarded as being able to open people up and bring about the ability to have a greater connection with the sacred world.

Its properties make it ideal for use in cleansing and clearing ceremonies of people, places and objects, as well as for meditation or prayer. People wanting to build a closer spiritual connection may also benefit from burning or carrying the herb.

More About Juniper Ridge
Juniper Ridge began in 1998, when founder Hall Newbegin started selling his handmade products at a farmers' market in Berkeley, California. Inspired by the mountains, forests and deserts of the American West, the company creates natural aromatic products that celebrate the beauty of the great outdoors.

Juniper Ridge is passionate about using natural ingredients and protecting the wilderness that inspires its products. Depending on the ingredient, its materials are sustainably harvested from the wild or responsibly cultivated. For example, since 2022, all of Juniper Ridge's white sage products have been made using sustainably cultivated white sage, grown by its farming partners on a family-owned farm in Baja California.

Where wild harvesting takes place, Juniper Ridge takes care to minimise its impact on the environment. Its harvesting practices include carefully pruning plants and trees rather than damaging their roots, allowing them to continue growing, and returning to harvesting locations to monitor their condition.

Juniper Ridge also supports wilderness conservation through its Western Wilderness Defense Fund, donating 10% of its profits or 1% of its sales, whichever is greater, to organisations working to protect and preserve the natural landscapes of the American West.
