Bergamot Organic Pure Essential Oil (10ml) - Citrus Bergamia
Bergamot is a delicate aroma, light and fresh with a citrus scent a little like lemon and orange with floral overtones.
It has numerous healing properties that can help you feel uplifted and restore physical, emotional and spiritual balance. Bergamot is particularly helpful in relieving tension, anxiety and depression whilst encouraging a balance to the mind and restful, relaxing sleep. It is used within skincare to help cleanse and clear oily or problematic skin and aid with treating cold sores. The antibiotic properties of the oil can help combat infection and inflammation, as well as assist with many digestive and respiratory conditions. Bergamot has also been known to help stimulate and regulate appetite of compulsive eaters and support with the treatment of urinary tract infections.
Within other uses, Bergamot can be used as an insect repellent and apparently can keep cats away from plants.
Origin & History
Bergamot is grown and harvested on the Ivory Coast along Southern Italy and Sicily. It is extracted from the ripe fruit peel.
It is said that Christopher Columbus first discovered the Bergamot tree in the Canary Islands and then introduced it to Italy and Spain; whilst other sources say it was named after the Italian town of Bergamo in Lombardy which is where the essence was first sold. It has been used within Italian folk recipes for centuries, extensively by perfumers and is used to flavour Earl Grey tea.
Bergamot is extremely versatile and can mix very well with other oils; you could try blending it with similar members of the citrus family such as orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerine, mandarin, pettigrain or neroli.
How to Store Your Oils: Essential oils can be quite delicate substances and factors such as strong light, heat, air and moisture can affect them. They are best kept in a cool, dark and dry place ideally in a box and in a cupboard. We wouldn't recommend transferring your essential oils into plastic bottles as the plastic can interact with the chemical makeup of your essential oils and may cause the plastic to deteriorate. Keeping them in their dark, amber bottle with the lid will prolong their life. Oils that are stored in the correct condition should last for years (citrus oils have a slightly shorter life).
Size: 10ml, presented in an amber glass bottle.
Extra Information: Not Tested on Animals, Manufactured in the UK. (For more information on Natural by Nature Oils, please see below).
Safety Precautions: Bergamot can irritate sensitive skin when it is exposed to sunlight as this increases photosensitivity. This is because of the chemical bergaptene which increases sensitivity to sunlight and may cause skin pigmentation or burning. We recommend avoiding strong sunlight for 24 hours after application.
Do not use undiluted on the skin. Do not take internally without medical supervision. Keep away from eyes. Keep out of the reach of children. Seek advice during pregnancy.
