Dropper Insert with Cap
A dropper insert, suitable for use with our empty amber bottles and available in three sizes (please see the pictures above for comparison in the sizes). Using a dropper insert can help to dispense an accurate amount of essential oil.
To use, simply screw the cap tightly onto an amber bottle (once full), then unscrew and the insert should be in place on the bottle. Push down on the edges of the insert to make sure it is fully sealed.
What Size Should I Use?
Different essential oils will have different viscosities (thickness); for instance some oils such as Rosemary and Peppermint are quite light, whilst others such as Myrrh or Patchouli are quite thick. Lighter oils will pour out of the dropper insert quicker whilst heavier and thicker oils will take longer to pour.
For information on making your own aromatherapy blends please see below.
The plastic on the lids of these droppers are made from PP (Polypropylene), which is recycable. The inserts are made from PELD (Polyethylene), which are also recyclable.
Mixing Essential Oils & Carrier Oils
Before essential oils can be applied to the skin, they should first be diluted in a base or carrier oil; any essential oils by themselves would be too strong if used neat and can sometimes cause irritation or reactions.
A recommended amount would be 1 drop of essential oil to every 5mls of carrier/base oil. A 10ml bottle of essential oil would give you approximately 200 drops, so when blending essential oils a general rule is for the dilution to be 2%.
Other examples: 10ml Base Oil = 5 Drops of Essential Oil, 50ml Base Oil = 25 Drops of Essential Oil.
Storing Essential Oils: Essential oils can be quite delicate substances and factors such as strong light, heat, air and moisture can affect them. They are best kept in a cool, dark and dry place ideally in a box and in a cupboard. We wouldn't recommend transferring your essential oils into plastic bottles as the plastic can interact with the chemical makeup of your essential oils and may cause the plastic to deteriorate. Keeping them in their dark, amber bottle with the lid will prolong their life. Oils that are stored in the correct condition should last for years (citrus oils have a slightly shorter life).
Storing Base & Carrier Oils
We recommend keeping your base or carrier oil in a cool place out of direct sunlight and to use them within 12-18 months once they has been opened. Wipe the lip and neck of the bottle clean before sealing the lid, this can help to stop any excess oil from going rancid.
