A truly wonderful read with lots of information about Margrit’s approach to healing generally, and specifically for horses. There is reference to other holistic approaches which can be used to treat horses, such as acupuncture and homeopathy, and Margrit explains why she has found it more appropriate to use hands on healing after other treatments such as physiotherapy (the horse being too relaxed for example after healing to provide the equine physiotherapist with enough information regarding the tight muscles needing attention). The book contains ten chapters including those covering the inner matrix of the horse and how to link human and equine soul during the healing process; what is healing for horses, why they need healing and how to give a healing treatment including the position of chakras in the horse. The environment and its effect on the horse with regards to health and healing is also discussed, and a useful small list of organisations which are involved in equine health/training to become a practitioner is included at the back of the book. This section also lists contact details for Margrit, including a website, which some readers may find of interest. Compared with Margrit's second book, 'Healing for Pets', this first book is specifically for the horse owner/rider/carer, and there is less information as regards how to conduct the healing and ways to prepare yourself (e.g.through meditation and visualisation) than in the second book. I would recommend the reader who would like to follow Margrit's suggestions with regards to healing horses, but who is new healing, read the second book also, especially the chapters providing suggestions about 'tuning-in' with an animal's mind and thought processes. As with my review of the second book, I feel I should pass a comment regarding the section on healing with crystals which Margrit also covers a brief chapter in Healing for Horses. As a qualified crystal therapist I have had much success with using crystals with humans and animals, and I disagree with Margrit's comments that crystals are not suitable for use on their own as a healing tool. The descriptions Margrit provides of individual crystal properties are very brief, and I would encourage readers to consult other specific crystal healing books if they wish to use crystals for healing and are novice in this area. The 20 case studies in Healing for Horses are varied and very interesting, and include the case of a donkey Margrit also treated. Some of the studies caused tears to well up for me, so do be prepared for this! I found this a wonderful book, informative and interesting, although the first few chapters did give me the impression they were trying to convince the sceptic of the value of healing. Having used hands-on healing with horses myself since the age of 14 I am more than comfortable with the practise and its efficacy, and other readers who are comfortable with the idea and benefits of healing might find some of the book a little repetitive. I would have liked more included in the chapter on how to give healing to horses, perhaps more photos of horses during healing and showing signs of releasing blocks would have been helpful. However, the diagram of where to place hands during healing is very useful and I feel many people reading this book who are new to healing horses will find this an encouraging book to start off their healing journey. A definite recommended read and good value!
