Why Does My Basket Lose the Products I Add to It?

Sometimes customers tell us that they put products into their shopping basket and a short while later the products are gone - that is the basket is empty. We have found usually this is related to the security settings in their browser. (A browser is the programme you use to navigate the internet. For many this would be "Internet Explorer".)

Our shopping basket uses something called a "cookie" to remember what is in your basket. It is a completely non-intrusive packet of information that is stored on your computer. It doesn't track information about you or send us any information about you. It identifies only what you have put in your basket on Holisticshop. Cookies are used widely across the internet.

If your security settings are set to exclude cookies or set to "very high" they start to exclude our cookie. This will start to cause you problems with things like shopping baskets and other bits of information you would like your computer to remember as you go about the internet.

So to cure this problem you need to lower your security settings to "Medium" or probably "Medium high" will also work. To do this in Internet Explorer click the word "Tools" at the top of the window, and then on the drop down list select "Internet options..."

Then from the tabs on the new window that opens up, select "Privacy". Then toggle the settings bar to the level of security you require. This level of security still blocks all cookies that wish to use personal information about you. Cookies that are put onto your computer at this security setting do not pose any threat. They should actually enhance your internet experience.
