Reiki (30) - Gentle spiritual healing therapy
Reiki is a gentle energetic, spiritual healing therapy. “Rei” means “unseen” or “spiritual” and “Ki” means “energy” or “life force”. This is often translated as “Universal Life Energy”. The system was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century after three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama. Energy flows through the hands to the “patient” or recipient in such a way that the givers energy is not depleted. The therapist keys into the universal energy, not necessarily their own individual energy. This universal energy is seen as intelligent and will heal the patient’s energy field without exact diagnosis. Treatment can be used on people, on yourself, pets and distance healing. The system often uses “attunement” where people are attuned so that they may also give this type of healing. Often symbols are used to help key into certain aspects of this healing art.
By Kathleen, Wrexham This 60 minute DVD is a wonderful idea, for anyone wondering What is Reiki and I would imagine also useful for those who have had distant attunements. The opening titles and presentation seemed to me slightly amateurish, but it didn’t deter from the fact that the content is well thought out and explained simply, so that someone new to reiki should find it easy to understand and relate to in everyday terms. The settings are ordinary, rather than overly esoteric, filmed predominantly in a back garden and a treatment room in a house. The appeal of this illustrates the accessibility of reiki and Reiki Master Ian Welch, who presents it, adds to this with his enthusiastic, 'guy next door' down-to-earth manner.
Included throughout are plenty of examples to illustrate what is energy, the impact our actions and intentions have upon the energy around us, how we may be effected by that and concluding the first section with a more specific explanation of what reiki energy is. In the section about healing, he briefly explains distant healing, then demonstrates a reiki treatment, including the chakras, the hand positions and making sure that the client is fully grounded after their treatment. Welch goes on to show the actual attunement process, what it is and how it may feel, how to choose a reiki master, what you may feel during a reiki attunement and also self-treating with reiki once attuned.
I personally would have preferred the script to include provision for the fact that the method by which reiki practitioners and masters work will vary slightly, yet will still be equally effective, such as when he talks about attunements and the itinerary of teaching.
