It's the Thought that Counts by David Hamilton

By Emma, Wrexham View ProfileI found 'It's The Thought That Counts'a fascinating read. It is a book which may especially appeal to those interested in complementary therapies; the mind, body, spirit connection; healers or for those on the path of development, self-awareness and self-healing. David Hamilton has a gift for writing about complex subjects in a way that is easy to understand. Skilfully blending serious discussions with a sprinkle of humour, analogies and his own personal experiences to illustrate his points, he lightens what could otherwise be heavy going subjects. He backs up his discussions with scientific studies which are referenced at the back of the book, along with a useful, quite extensive, suggested further reading list.
The book opens with the chapter 'Body and Mind' where he talks about meditation, entrainment, faith and the placebo effect. David includes examples of both allopathic and complementary therapies, and also accounts for why some of us might not be susceptible to the placebo effect. He explains about DNA and genes and the impact of visualisation and love upon these regarding health and healing. Although the book is called 'It's The Thought That Counts', David does not encourage us as readers to forego our emotions. In the 'Power of Intention' and 'Good Vibrations' chapters he talks about vibrations in relation to love, water, our bodies, sound and food. 'Distant Healing and Prayer' discusses studies which have demonstrated the effectiveness of these practises. The 'Nature of Reality' introduces the collective unconscious. The chapters 'Experiments in Connectedness' and 'Who am I?' deal with crime rates, ESP, consciousness, spiritual amnesia, and creating our reality through manifestation. 'Love, Fear and Biology' cover the effects of these factors on the growth of plants. 'Mass reality' talks about group consciousness, the butterfly effect and also changing the world and inspiring peace......more
