A pendulum should not be used as a crutch to help us decide every which way to go in life. It should be used with the intention to truly help us grow, always seeking answers that can contribute to the greater good.
If you wanted to, you could use a stone attached to a piece of string as a pendulum. The reason there are different styles and shapes is purely for preference. Simply choose the shape and material that appeals to you. For a crystal pendulum you may choose a stone that has qualities that you wish to see appearing more in your life.

The Peter Stone Company purchases raw silver and produces their own true .925 sterling silver alloy in their own factory. All rings are cast to size and craftsmen cut and inlay each stone for a perfect fit. By Patricia, London I have always used crystal pendulums with various results. On getting this pendulum first thing I noted was the solid weight and the balance between the ball you hold and the pointed part. Again a very large amount of silver used, beautiful "carvings" of the Goddess and the moon. I have to say it has revolutionised my dowsing, both in success and a real feeling of unity with the pendulum when I use it. Also the pointed part can be opened to put in for example a crystal chip to represent what you are dowsing for, I find this works brilliantly. A big thumbs up from me definately the best thing I have bought to date.
