Rune Guide - An Introduction to using the Runes

By Cate Gardner View ProfileWhen I was sent the Rune Oracle to review I was somewhat surprised to find that it comprises a deck of 32 cards, rather than the usual stones, tiles or crystals. Twenty four of the cards are pictorial, leaving the remaining eight, which if I was talking in terms of Tarot, I'd refer to as 'pip', as just the symbols are shown. No reason is given for this, although I have my suspicions which I'll reveal below.
There are three Major Futharks used commonly used today, 'The Germanic or Elder Futhark', 'The Anglo Saxon Futhark' and 'The Scandinavian or Norse Futhark'. The Germanic or Elder is used here with additions as the Germanic contains 24 Runes, so perhaps this is the reason that only 24 are pictorial. This isn't mentioned in the very brief and basic instruction pamphlet. There are no instructions for how to shuffle the cards either although the presumption would be to shuffle the same as Tarot allowing some cards to reverse as indeed reversed meanings are included with each description in the leaflet. There is just one seven card spread which the leaflet says is 'useful for understanding whether you are able to confront a situation' and the cards are chosen from the face down deck with the right hand. This is opposite to Tarot as it is normal for the non-dominant hand to choose the cards so that the intuitive side of the brain - on the left in right-handed people over-rules the logical side.
I think this deck would be ideal for someone just starting out with Runes, perhaps as an accompaniment to stones, tiles or crystals. The advantage is that you can identify the Rune with its pictorial representation and gain a deeper insight into the meaning, before attaching this to......more

By Susan, Swansea These Rune Cards are simply great! I have had some time with them and felt drawn to them as soon as I saw them. I just love them! Excellent service too!

By Ben Lee, Chessington, Surrey Like the Angel Oracle Cards, the Rune Cards are beautifully illustrated and practical in terms of fitting nicely in the palm and easy to carry around. For me, the drawings on the cards are perfect for meditation and divination. This deck of cards is simply a divine treasure.
