Dictionary Terms Explained
- Gentle spiritual healing therapy
Reiki is a gentle energetic, spiritual healing therapy. “Rei” means “unseen” or “spiritual” and “Ki” means “energy” or “life force”. This is often translated as “Universal Life Energy”. The system was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century after three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama. Energy flows through the hands to the “patient” or recipient in such a way that the givers energy is not depleted. The therapist keys into the universal energy, not necessarily their own individual energy. This universal energy is seen as intelligent and will heal the patient’s energy field without exact diagnosis. Treatment can be used on people, on yourself, pets and distance healing. The system often uses “attunement” where people are attuned so that they may also give this type of healing. Often symbols are used to help key into certain aspects of this healing art.

Reviews - rated 4/5 based on customer reviews5 out of 5 By Len LeaperThis DVD is as the title suggests is about the practice of Reiki Healing. It is very much aimed at newcomers to this healing platform either recent first degree initiates or perhaps those thinking learning how to heal using Reiki.
The presentation by Ian is well put together. He communicates well with his audience and makes few assumptions of prior knowledge. We are guided through his placement of hands for touch healing with explanations followed by hands off healing and body scanning.
There is a sequence of healing explained using a chair instead of a couch.
He keeps these healing demonstrations reasonably simple and anyone recently trained to first degree will have no difficulty following this.
Some time is spent demonstrating self healing and aspects of chakra coupled with associated colours and principles are introduced.
Distant healing which can be a stumbling block for many is explained and demonstrated extremely well. Generally distant healing is taught as part of second degree initiation however I feel it fully correct that this is shown at first degree.
There is a short section which deals with healing animals. Ian spends some time explaining how Reiki can be used in every day life crystals and programming explained, dreamcatchers are demonstrated too.
Preparation such as grounding and protection clearing space and so on is clearly indicated protocols are introduced and explained.
Most useful is a question and answer section which would serve many who engage in this healing modality.
I have taught Reiki for a number of years and feel this DVD could easily compliment formal tuition allowing students to take what fits with them. Naturally there are a number of variations of specific Reiki healing practice. Some of the advice Ian gives is not exactly as I would give however we......more2 out of 5 By Louise GreenReiki Healing Journey with Reiki Master, Ian Welch, is aimed at those who have taken their first Reiki level. The DVD covers grounding, chakras and their associated colours, a demonstration of how to give a treatment, also how to use Reiki in other ways, for example,on pets.
It was with bated breath that I sat down, mug of tea in hand, to take in the wisdom of the Reiki Master, for I had just taken my own level one, a few weeks before and I had lots of questions. Ian Welch speaks informatively on the subject, which is shot from his healing room. It is a very simplistic background with nothing to distract from the subject matter. I had the impression that the DVD was shot on a budget; it had a 'homespun' feel to it. I noted that colour of Ian's jumper wavered and that the sound quality on the DVD rose and fell, this was distracting and I did think these technical glitches could have been remedied before the DVD was released on sale.
I enjoyed the special effects which showed how Reiki's energy might look if I could see it. As a novice, I often wonder if it is working and seeing it 'visualised' helped enormously. The demonstration showing how to treat your recipient was good and it boosted my confidence. The following question and answer session with a Reiki Master and new level one student did answer some queries I had, for example, on equipment and charging. The section on other uses for Reiki sparked my imagination and I have been practising on my pot of Basil, which does look a little better, in fairness to it! There are bonus chapters on the DVD, I was fascinated by the......more
