What a useful little book! With only 234 pages Diana Cooper manages to cover a vast area of work in a succinct 24 chapters. The book is about dealing with the causes of disturbance in life and how to find meaning in at all. Cooper gets right to the point in this easy-to-read yet very useful handbook. She deals with subjects as wide ranging as the chakras, relationships, connecting with the earth, coping with loss and many more. The chapters are not long, just a few pages in some instances, with sub-headings along the way as well and in a language that is simple and direct. There are two other pluses that I find of great benefit. Firstly, the book is full of case studies. In fact, this whole work is a book that avoids over-usage of theory. Secondly, the chapters end with a brief italicised statement that sums up what the writer is expressing in that chapter. For example, the chapter on the chakras ends with the words, Our life is a mission. Make it a peace mission. The chapter on loss ends with these splendid words, When someone we love dies we may care to remember that what is death to the caterpillar is life to the butterfly. I am listing these summaries separately as I find them to be most instructive in my daily life.
This book is impressive in its ability to encourage the reader to find their own quiet centre where energy and peace can be found. Cooper has written something that reaches into the lives of all kinds of people. It has certainly made a difference to me. I can heartily recommend this book to anyone who feels they need help to find themselves a purpose in living.
