Alfred Savinelli writes in detail about 14 of the most common plants used in Native American ceremony - incense cedar, red cedar, copal, juniper, lavender, mugwort, osha, pinon, California white sage, desert sage, sweet grass, tobacco, red willow bark and yerba santa. The book covers the habit and the medicinal and ceremonial uses of each plant, together with long quotes from Native Americans on the sacredness and meaning of each herb. Plants of Power also covers the sweat lodge, the sun dance and the pipe ceremony. This book would provide a good reference for the newcomer or the more experienced ceremonial practitioner.

By Anne Marie Welch View Profile
It is a small book but it contains loads of information about many herbs. The author describes how the Native Americans used them for healing such as red cedar, copal, juniper, lavendar, mugwort, osha, pinion, white sage, desert sage, sweet grass, tobacco, red osier doogwood, and yerba santa . It also includes traditional prayers and discusses some rituals. A very practical book for the modern healer who wants to know more about the herbs origin.
