On back of card: The Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange was built about 3200 BC. The kidney shaped mound covers an area of over one acre and is surrounded by 97 kerbstones. Many of these are richly decorated with triple spirals or triskele that may represent the three aspects of the goddess and the nine month period of human pregnancy, since the sun takes a fourth of a year to from celestial equator (an equinox) to extreme north or south declination (a solsitice), and vice versa. During each three month period, the sun's path across the sky appears to form a closely wound quasi helical shape.
