Pack information: 78 cards with tiny booklet
Card dimensions: 70 x 128 mm
Authors: Hermann Haindl

They say: The Tarot pack by Hermann Haindl draws upon many esoteric and religious traditions, particularly Native American, the Holy Grail, the I Ching, Kabbalah and the Runes. The 22 Major Arcana cards are rich in detail and symbolism.

We say: Each Minor Arcana card has a keyword at the bottom (e.g., 'Success' for the 10 of cups). The Minor Arcana contains no representations of people at all, and in the Major Arcana, the people tend to take second place to animals and symbols. I suspect this is a deck that some people would become very attached to because, it is a stunning and real creation in itself, and not a pale evolution of an existing deck.

Tarot Cards (61) -
The Tarot is a specific system that has 78 cards in total. There are 4 suits (referred to as the minor arcana) and 22 other cards (referred to as the major arcana). Each card represents a specific energy. And each card, through the picture on the card, is trying to help you to feel the specific energy of that card. The reason there are so many different kinds of Tarot decks is that Different Tarot decks may present this energy in different pictorial form. We have lots of articles on Tarot.

Each Major Arcana card displays a rune, a Hebrew letter and astrological symbol. Each Minor Arcana card (ace to ten) displays a pair of I Ching trigrams and a resonant word, pentacles are depicted as stones. The court cards display either historical personalities or mythical gods/goddesses representing east, west, north and south. The borders of the cards are coloured yellow-earth/pentacles, white-air/swords, blue-water/cups and red-fire/wands.

Apart from the rich symbolism, the images are complex and multi-faceted. For me, the cards evoke emotions and as I look at them figures, shapes and meanings suggest themselves. Some of the images bear a resemblance to the Thoth pack, some are quite different like naked figures (Emperor and Empress) that lend naturalness and humility to Haindl’s interpretations. Some of the indicative words on the Minor Arcana cards are the same as Thoth (9 and 10 Swords are presented as Cruelty and Ruin) and some are quite different (9 and 10 of Cups are presented as Happiness and Satiety in the Thoth pack, Fortune and Success by Haindl). I especially like a positive theme running through Haindl’s cards, such as Death that shows green shoots have already appeared.

The Haindl Tarot is only the third pack I’ve bought to use. It took me a long time to decide, and I am delighted with my choice. If you enjoy evocative images that are complex and invite your exploration of several different knowledge systems, you’ll love Haindl’s cards.

This is a really beautiful set of tarot cards... really nice to handle and the all seeing eye on the back of the cards is such a beautiful image. My fave card is the hermit... it's so beautiful and it symbolises virgo, which is me.
