There's really not a great deal I can say about this set, except: 'Buy it!' I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. It is a marvellous follow-up to 'The Quest for the Green Man', also by John Matthews which looks in great detail at the origins and representations of this enigmatic figure, right across the globe, from our own Celtic images through to those of the Far East, including China!

This set includes a beautifully detailed plaque, cast in a weatherproof material - which is so important as many of them aren't. It is well crafted, in an extremely attractive shade of green and feels very substantial. It means that you can, as the book suggests, add him to your garden, where he can peep from between leafy plants or place him over your front door to welcome guests and repel those who would be less welcome! The book cover shows a brilliant example of the Green Man at his best, which can be found in the gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. The book includes a gazetteer of places where you may come across him, usually incorporated into secretive little places in churches and even cathedrals.

Many thanks for the Green Man, so promptly delivered - he is lovely, and the book is a delight. I have had a soft spot for the Green Man since studying the Gawain poet (a few years ago now) and it was great to renew the acquaintance. I look forward to enjoying his benevolent influence in my new garden when I move house next year!
