CD: Drums of a Nation by John Richardson

By Vernon Marshall View ProfileI admit to being a fan of John Richardson. He somehow manages to convey an atmosphere that conjures up images of Native American culture even if that representation is distinctly Western. To me there is a strong creative force in his work that is sympathetic and understanding of shamanic practice whilst mindful of the desire for something consumable by a culture relatively new to such traditions. Drums of a Nation is not as gentle and catchy as Spirit of the Redman but it is not meant to be. This CD is more intense, more monochordic, more hypnotic. It may not suit all people, but, if drums are to your taste, then this CD will capture some of that trance-like environment created by these strong percussion techniques. The accompanying natural sounds do enable a mystical feel that is the custom with Richardson’s music. For anyone wanting to plunge deep into their imagination, then this CD can enhance that search for colour and creativity.

By Alison, Woking This is an amazing album. It just draws you in to the atmosphere and I can almost feel the rain falling on me. It gives me goosebumps, it is so real. John Richardson's music never ceases to inspire me and I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who really wants to experience the power of drums.
