They say: The delicate beauty of a bonsai garden is the perfect setting for contemplation and meditation and this album perfectly captures the atmosphere of this special place. Many traditional Japanese instruments have been used such as Shaku, Wood Flute, Dragon Drum, and Koto, along with guitar, keyboards, windchimes and other sounds to reflect the same peace and stillness that can be found in the art of bonsai. Bonsai requires a communion with nature and the trees love harmonious positive music, and Midori is a masterful composer that draws us into the bonsai garden where we can find our own spiritual awakening.

This CD is typical of the kind of music produced by Midori. There are no sharp surprises, but a simple flowing melody that is conducive to quiet reflection or meditation. It is also useful as background music for practising some gentle creative work, such as, of course, tending miniature trees in the art of Bonsai. The instrumentation is impressive, combining traditional Japanese instruments with modern, electronic equipment. There are no less than ten different sounds, produced by shaku, wood flute, koto, nylon guitar, dragon drum, Japanese percussion, bell tree, wind chimes, marimba and keyboards. The aim of the composer has been to connect the listener to nature. There is certainly something of this in this CD. It is a very soothing work and very effective in evoking the peaceful ambience required for creative activities.

A bonus to the CD itself is the information given on the sleeve regarding the history of the art of Bonsai and its controversial place in Eastern culture.

For those who like Midori’s work, and for those who enjoy "New Age" music centred on keyboard sounds, this CD will not disappoint. It is 51 minutes of heaven.
