They say: Once in a while a voice of such quality and beauty rises up that it transcends all musical styles and cultures. Pia has such a voice. Her gentle, echoing vocals and the enigmatic arrangements create a warm heavenly sound. It is a gorgeous collection of heartfelt songs.

'If you like Enya and Clannad you will adore Pia's Benediction Moon'. Pia (Gaurangi) sings to express her feelings, to even release negative emotions in a positive way through singing. She sings from the heart.

The spiritual aspect of Pia's music is very important to her. Following a period performing the rock opera 'Bhagavad Gita', she studied with the renowned Bengali musician and vocalist Haridas Ganguli, and has toured extensively performing Bhajans (traditional Indian spiritual songs). Pia has performed with artists such as Boy George, John Richardson, and Dream Academy. Benediction Moon is her first solo recording.

We say: Haunting is a word often used to describe vocals such as these. But these lyrics don't feel haunting, they are more lyrical, lingering and accomplished. The voice is used more as an instrument rather than a vehicle for conveying words, although all the words are written on the inside sleeve. This is a best-selling album.

I have a number of CDs with artificially created “etheric” music. They are lovely and I listen to them very often. But how original can these CDs be? There are so many of them on the market. I did wonder how this CD may be different. I was, however, very pleasantly surprised. This singer has a beautiful voice. Her music is not just something to hear in the background whilst being involved in some other activity. If you try to do that you will find yourself shifting your attention to her singing. She does have a gentle, dreamy quality to her singing. On the other hand there is enough of a groundedness in the manner of her singing that does not allow you to dismiss it as just wallpaper music. The songs have structure and movement. There is a journey taken. There are beginnings and endings. I have become a fan of her singing and I hope to find more of her work around. Do give her a try and you will not be disappointed.
