Review(s) for CD: Bedtime Meditations For Kids

Review posted by Rachel Newcombe View Profile

For children who are reluctant to settle down at night, or take a while to get to sleep, this CD is ideal. It consists of three different bedtime mediations, all of which involve going on a journey or having an adventure.
However, rather than being over-stimulating, and involving too much excitement and adventure, which would not be good at bedtime, the CD is designed to be calming and relaxing, giving children something to focus on before they settle down to sleep. It’s a bit like a bedtime story, but interactive and with a calming element. Christiane’s vocals are soft and placid as she reads out details of the story, and there’s gentle music playing in the background all the time.
The adventures aren’t too hard to imagine, so even if your child isn’t that good with creativity, they should manage fine. For example, the first track, By The Sea, involves being on a beach and making a sand castle, before other more exciting adventures.
At the beginning of each track, there’s time for a child to get comfortable, make sure they’ve got their favourite toy in bed with them and are ready to settle down, before the CD launches into some gentle relaxation. There’s a suitable point where you can pause the CD if they suddenly realise they’ve forgotten to put their teddy to bed, without missing anything important.
Each track is long enough to be enjoyable and take your child’s attention away from the fact that they’re in bed, but not too long, so that it tires them out even more. If they can’t concentrate and feel sleepy before the end of the track, then that’s fine, and they can easily dose off.
The CD is a lovely way for children to end the day and a more unusual alternative to a traditional bedtime story. Hopefully, after listening to a track, they should be in the perfect state to drift off calmly into a deep sleep.
