Fossilised wood is wood that has literally been transformed into stone by minerals infiltrating gaps and cellular spaces in the wood. The stone will have some of the qualities of whatever crystals are used in its formation but also the ancientness and visual impression of wood formed millions of years ago can help symbolically to connect us to ancient rituals and to our ancestors and previous lives. Fossilised wood can be good to hold when we are 'worrying' because it reminds us of how old and large the universe really is and then makes our problems seem so small.
