Medicine Buddha Definition and Medicine Buddha Products

Medicine Buddha - Healing Buddha
The Medicine Buddha is also known as Bhaisajya Buddha or the Healing Buddha. When worshipped or meditated upon he is said to give out spiritual medicine and healing for oneself and others.

He wears a monastic robe and is seated legs crossed. His left hand lies open in his lap (in the gesture of "meditative stability") holding a medicine bowl full of long life nectar. His right hand hand lies open and to the front (a gesture called "supreme generosity") holding in it the branch and fruit of the myrobalan, a medicinal plant found in India and other tropical countries. In this tradition there are held to be three types of illness, all caused by the conflicting emotions of passion, aggression and ignorance. Myrobalan is said to be the only herb in this tradition that helps to heal these Imbalances.

Lama Tashi Namgyal said, "If one meditates on the Medicine Buddha, one will eventually attain enlightenment, but in the meantime one will experience an increase in healing powers both for oneself and others and a decrease in physical and mental illness and suffering."
