By Rachel Newcombe View ProfileThe first thing that surprised about this book is that it's clearly aimed at teenagers, yet nowhere in the introduction or the blurb on the back does it actually say this! As you read it, it becomes obvious, as almost all the anecdotal examples given relate to teens with various issues, or parents whose teens have died and wanted to get in contact with them. It's only by the last few chapters that Van Praagh begins to specifically imply that his readers will be teens.
Aside from this, it's a very easy to read, practical guide to understanding and connecting with your own psychic talents and applying simple skills to all areas of life. Van Praagh writes in a chatty, down-to-earth style, as if he’s in the same room talking to you, and clearly explains the meaning of all the concepts he deals with. The text is laid out nicely and split into easily digestible chunks, intermingled with exercises to do, 'reality checks' and boxes called 'spirit says', both of which act as prompts for remembering the key points and aiding understanding.
A wide variety of topics are covered, including details about turning negative thoughts into positives, learning to accept abundance in your life, karmic laws, learning to forgive and learning to love. As mentioned before, there are lots of examples given to illustrate all the points, mostly involving teens who've been to see Van Praagh or people he knew whilst he was young.
The readers who'll probably get the most from this book are likely to be teens, as it's written at their level. However, it would also suit those new to psychic or spiritual concepts, or people wanting a quick refresher course, as it explains things so clearly. Overall it was a really enjoyable read.
