By Julie Norman View ProfileUnderstanding dreams is a fascinating book, the kind of book where you are inspired to read bits out to whoever else happens to be present, the number of times I turned to my other half and said, 'Hey, did you know...?'. 100 pages of the 196 in the book are dedicated to the dream dictionary, giving a fairly comprehensive list. Common dreams like flying or those featuring houses are given a little section of their own. This book is more than just a dream dictionary. Dee covers the scientific aspects of sleep and dreaming. The psychological perspective is also discussed in an informative but not overbearing way, for example Jung's ideas of the archetypal characters we may meet in our dreams. Also explored are the more unusual areas of telepathic dreaming, collective and prophetic dreams, all of which make for fascinating reading. This book certainly got me thinking. Dee also investigates the phenomenal power that dreams can have by illustrating how much the dreams of individuals have shaped the world in which we live. The author discusses biblical dreams, the dream that caused Hitler to survive World War 1 and the dreams that led to the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci to name but a few. This is a great guide to harnessing the power of your dreams, it advises you on how to use dreams to your advantage, to find the inner voice within to guide and advise you. Techniques are described in detail to help you to get the most of your dreams, one that I found worked was to literally ask yourself to dream for help regarding a specific problem, obvious when you think about it, but I'd never realised. Dee also shows how to keep a dream diary that you can use to help you, and......more
