The image of fire has two contrasting sides to it. On the one hand, fire can be protective, warm and comforting, yet also destructive and threatening. In alchemy, the element of fire is represented as a triangle symbol, with a single point at the top, and it originally came from the Medieval magical Seal of Solomon. The triangle symbol is still widely used today, particularly with jewellery or on works of art.

Wiccans regard fire as one of the four creative elements and it's often symbolised as a ritual tool. In astrology, the zodiac signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are regarded as fire signs. Other common meanings linked with fire include energy, purification, passion and regeneration.
