By Emma Sims View ProfileThe Book of Peace is a little gem of a book and it really did bring me some peace when reading it. Compiled by Lucinda Vardey, from Mother Teresa's book 'A Simple Path', it's a book that you can just pick up, randomly select a page and immerse yourself in the inspirational words and visions of Mother Teresa. It has provided me with food for contemplation contained within the paragraphs of wisdom.
The Book of Peace illustrates to me that we don't always have to read the whole book to attain that one sentence of inspiration that we might just be ready for. I have a few favourites passages from it and one in particular is 'It is not how much you do but how much love you put into the doing and sharing with others that is important. Try not to judge people. If you judge people then you are not giving love'. There is an emphasis on prayer throughout and if constant references to God and Jesus don't sit comfortably with you, then it might not be the book for you.I am border-line myself, depending on the context, and when I chose the book to review I admittedly had a pre-conceived idea of the content, so was a little surprised. However, as it says in the forward, 'these are simple truths that transcend all boundaries of race, culture and religion' and they are simple truths. Once I rose above my own barriers, my heart really did open up.
I think that this book would make a marvellous gift for someone who was struggling on their path and also ideal if their concentration isn't up to devouring large books. The Book of Peace is one that I would reach for to pass on to a......more
