They say: Confronting and solving problems is a painful process that most of us attempt to avoid. And the very avoidance results in greater pain and an inability to grow both mentally and spiritually. Drawing heavily on his own professional experience, Dr M. Scott Peck, a psychiatrist, suggests ways in which facing our difficulties - and suffering through the changes - can enable us to reach a higher level of self-understanding. He discusses the nature of loving relationships: how to recognise true compatibility; how to distinguish dependency from love; how to become one's own person and how to be a more sensitive parent.

This is a book that can show you how to embrace reality and yet -chieve serenity and a richer existence. Hugely influential, it has now sold over 7 million copies - and has changed many people's lives round the globe. It may change yours.

By Brett Almond View Profile
It has now been nearly fifteen years since I first read the Road Less Travelled but I still remember reading it, each page a revelation to me, underlining sentences and being totally fascinated. And I also know of many who have found it to be an equal revelation. On my death bed if someone asked me the top five books that changed my life I would have to put this one amongst that lofty bunch. I think I would credit this book with getting me into personal development. It was like a whole world opened up to me when reading it. It shows how if you are in a dark place there is a different way, You can choose the Road Less Travelled. It is "less travelled" because it is not necessarily always easy, and many people may tend to just stay in the dark and be miserable, fearful, depressed, angry, abused, neurotic, lacking self worth etc. Taking inspiration from this book that you can actually change how you experience life, I first went to see a hypnotherapist, then a counsellor for a year or two, then I got into personal development through Tarot, then started doing ceremony with Joseph Rael (a Native American visionary). And so you see how I could credit this book with starting the whole process. You obviously have to read books at the right time for them to make the most impact but if this book is calling to you I would have no hesitation recommending it as a classic.
