They say: It has long been known that music has a profound effect on the mind, body and soul. Years of study have shown that Classical music has the greatest impact of all. This finely crafted series contains specially selected compositions that have been re-arranged and produced by New World Music. From relaxation and healing to inspiration and creativity, let the great composers including Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and Greig enhance your wellbeing and stir the imagination. Classics for Relaxation is a collection of the great works that have been selected for their easy tempos and smooth flowing melodies. The title for this CD is very appropriate. It is a feast of some of the best and most popular classical music, chosen for its calming and relaxing effect. The works chosen make up a collection that flows well, that is gentle yet not without identifiable structure. One cannot be totally lost within oneself with this CD as there is a variety that stirs the imagination and enables one to envisage one's thoughts and ideas into picture-like images. The classical music of this CD differs from other similar presentation. When one expects a full orchestra there is somtimes instead a sole piano, or a small ensemble. This enables the listener to hear a well-known and well-loved piece in a new way. The familiarity of the piece, contrasted with the unfamiliarity of the instrumantation, makes for an unexpected performance, although the pieces themselves are played straight, without any attempt at updating or extemporarising on an established theme. This CD meets several criteria. It is not over-ambitious but does offer something a litle different. The justification for commending this CD is its usage. It is apropriate for healing sessions and for personal reflection, though I would not use it for meditation proper. Anyone who loves good calssical music and who is open to a newer recording of timeless pieces, will appreciate this CD and continue to listen to it on many occasions.
