They say: The wonder and mystery of one of the most intriguing and majestic islands in the world is vividly captured by Midori. The peaceful yet deeply exotic sounds of authentic ethnic wood flutes and strings create the music that washes away the stress of a long day and allows you to escape to a distant shore.

We say: This album has an ethnic, tribal feel with a touch of the Orient thrown in. The wood flutes (sound a bit like panpipes) are quite prominent. Other wood instruments are used too and with the natural sounds of the sea that are used occasionally we are brought to a world that could have been Easter Island.

This CD is one of those that you can enjoy without realising what is actually being played. In fact, I fell asleep twice whilst listening to it and have struggled to survive to the end! I would not use this CD as a tool for meditation, but as an aide to relaxation. It is certainly beautiful and dreamy and evocative of the paradisiacal environment of one’s dreams. If anything, I would describe the ambience of the music as somewhat oriental. There is a Chinese feel to some of the music. I adored the contrast between the wood flutes played to a background of traditional string sounds. It cannot be easy to compose ever new and different sounds for this type of CD but Midori somehow manages it. It is within a certain tradition but yet has managed to find its own distinct voice. I would have no hesitation in playing it within the classification of the better compositions and performances. Well done Midori, and thanks for another tool for finding oneself at peace within the storms and tempests of everyday living.
