They say: On this recording, Chris takes the listener through four Buddhist meditation techniques that he himself has been teaching for the last 25 or so years. They are explained in a straightforward, easy to understand fashion that will, when applied, bring a feeling of calm and tranquillity to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike! Also included are some very useful tips and guidelines to help the practitioner make smooth and satisfying progress.

Chris was born in 1948, and started studying Buddhism in 1969 while a successful jazz and rock drummer in London. He studied in Europe, India, Nepal and Los Angeles and was ordained as a Zen monk (Rev Shingen) in 1983. He now teaches Buddhism and Zen drumming and occasionally works as an actor in T.V. drama.

We say: In some ways this is like a book. The instructions are very helpful for the beginner or for those new to Buddhist meditation with practical advice like not eating for an hour and a half before meditation and how to focus the breath. Some Zen drumming introduces each different section but during the talking there is no background music. It is the sort of CD where you'll listen to the relevant sections a few times then proceed to put it into practice by yourself. Then probably you will refer back to it again for more insight.

This is the sort of instruction you might receive at your local Buddhist centre. It is solid verbal advice of the actual techniques used in three of the main meditation techniques used in Buddhism. It won't inspire you just by listening to it. It is the techniques that you use from the CD that will hopefully bring this. Many do not call Buddhism a religion. It is more a path, a quest for enlightenment. So by learning this you do not become a Buddhist, you are simply using some of their tried and tested techniques that have been used for many many years.

By Peter, Basingstoke
What I really like about this CD is the thing that encouraged me to select it from among so many meditation CDs. When I sampled it on-line I was pleased to hear an English rather than an American accent. I was also encouraged by the normal manner of speaking, as if the speaker were offering guidance on how to play a musical instrument or do some practical task, instead of that hypnotic, mystical, 'relaxing' delivery so often employed on meditation materials. Here is a voice of experience that I can trust, unaccompanied by ambient music, and calculated to keep the practitioner awake, alert and focused. The content is put together well, with its clear introduction spelling out what to expect and how to use the techniques.
