They say: Curious about your destiny? Mahalaka has been designed to help you find the answer to any question you might have about your life. Focus on your question, draw a card and notice your feelings coming up. It is your insight into the meaning and significance of the cards themselves that allows you to understand your situation.

There are 72 cards, made up of 14 cards in each of 5 suits and 2 Jokers, Mahakala and Free Will. The suits are Spirit (Dragon), Love (Daisy), Sex (Yin Yang), Work (Bee) and Money (Buffalo Cow). The meaning of each card is found in your interpretation of the meaning of the information carried by the card's suit (e.g. Sex), the meaning of the icon (e.g. Yin Yang) and colour (red), the number it carries (e.g. 8 means change), the name of the card (Passion), quotation on the card ("The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of") and the form and colour of the illustration - as clearly explained in the accompanying booklet.

The cards can be used like any oracle, asking a question of using a specific spread as described in the booklet; or they can be used to actually play a game - like any board game, with a winner and a loser - but in the course of the game each player learns more about their destiny and that of their opponents.

This pack came in as a sample from Findhorn Press, the same people who brought us the Diana Cooper "Angels of Light" cards etc. We didn't initially take this deck on as a product to sell and it looked like it wasn't going to make it (sobs quietly). So I took the sample deck home and thought I would use it a few times but didn't think I would use it long term. But I have been getting into them now! I have started to call upon them for snippits of information. My main deck really has always been the Golden Rider Tarot deck, sometimes supported by the Sacred Path Cards and maybe the odd angel card (snuck out of my wife's decks). But I have now started to call upon the Mahakala cards too.

Each card features a single word such as Respect, Vision, Purpose, Desire, Enough, Balance, Generosity, Connect, Freedom, Generosity etc, and to go with each word there is a saying from some spiritual text or person. For example the card Change has the quote from Shirgung Lin, "There are many changes around us. When we cultivate our response to these changes and follow them, life flows and becomes simple". And for the card Flow has the quote from Kahil Gibran "And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course."

The images are colourful and abstract, and personally I liked this. Although on the face of it these cards could be seen to be in a similar vein to other decks which feature single word phrases I felt they had a certain X factor.
