They say Tantra is an Eastern path of personal development based on a system of yoga in which the union of male and female principles is worshipped. It uses the sexual charge within a relationship to transform passion into heightened states of consciousness and create a spiritual bliss. Tantric sex enables us to fulfil our true potential by liberating our sexual energy and freeing ourselves from the limitations of the Self and the ego. Discover how to switch off the mind, awaken all the senses and become aware of your whole body. By focusing on the fire energy, which rests at the base of the spine, we can tap new sources of pleasure and develop a greater lust for life and a more vibrant sense of self. Use meditation, visualization and fantasy to dramatically improve sexual and emotional confidence and take your relationship to the highest attainable level. Tantric Sex introduces the essentials of this simple, life-enhancing tradition and teaches you how to find new ways of understanding, expressing and fulfilling your sexuality.

Cassandra Lorius is a homeopath with 20 years' experience, who has worked specifically around issues of sexuality. She has been an ardent follower of Tantra for many years and completed the Tantra training with SkyDancing UK.

By Vernon Marshall View Profile
This book is not for those seeking titillation but is instead a very clearly conveyed presentation of a developed form of yoga that seeks to create spiritual bliss. Yes, it is about sex, but it is about how sex can release the ego and thus bring us into a more aware sense of our self. The book does this with very clearly devised stages, beginning with a brief introduction to the history and foundations of Tantra. There are explanations of techniques, but these are accompanied with an overt underlining of how these are integral to the deepening of a human relationship.

What makes this book readable is the layout, with its short passages of explanation interspersed with 'case studies', or extracts from statements by individuals who have become adapt at Tantric practises. There are line drawings, but they are derived from ancient Indian art rather than from the more 'realistic' expositions of couples participating in sex. There is also a useful contacts list for training, such as that conducted by the Sky Dancing Institute. As a work that combines practicality with theory, yet is not too long, I would score this book highly.
