By Rachel Keene View ProfileThis was quite a departure for me, I don’t usually read “self help” books, but this book seemed to stand out as “different” from the rest. As a positive thinking woman anyway I thought I’d see if it showed me anything new or inspired me.
Gael uses a lot of easy to follow exercises and examples to get you thinking. For example using mnemonics to help you to remember ways of tackling certain situations when they arise. I liked the way she really does keep things simple and easy to understand, and does not get bogged down in jargon or psycho babble.
I could relate easily to the exercises where scenario examples from our everyday lives were used to demonstrate a different way of thinking in a more positive way, seeing both sides of the coin if you like.
There are many quotes from inspirational women peppering the text too, which kept it interesting and lively too.
It was refreshing to read with, as Gael shared her own experiences from time to time in the book and never patronised or spoke as an “expert” – she has a real knack for speaking simply yet wisely with inspiration.
There’s a lot to digest though, and lots of exercises involving questioning oneself - so I broke it down into sections, and didn’t attempt to read it all in one go.
There was lots of humour and fun in the book too. One of my favourite bits was in a section on self presentation and deciding “my style”, picking the quotes you most identified with from famous women. My favourite which made me chuckle was this one from Barbara Cartland: “A thin woman will get wrinkles sooner than a fat one. So the choice is, “Shall......more
