Kachinas dolls are small figures traditional specifically to the Native American tradition. These kachinas (also sometimes spelt katsina or katchina) are most often carved from wood and painted. The figures represent different spiritual and natural elements. For example you may have an eagle, bear, clown, warrior or sun represented which brings forward the energies associated with that particular being / element. Kachinas are used in traditional ceremonies and used to teach. In our modern lives we can place them in our houses, workplaces or altars to bring the energy of what is represented into our lives. We can even places a small pinch of cornmeal or tobacco at the foot of the kachina. This is an offering to ourselves to let ourselves know we are becoming ever more connected with this energy. In Hopi, the word Kachina means literally "life bringer”.
