Smudging is a ceremony used to clear away negative energies and to attract ones that are more positive. Native Americans have traditionally used many herbs for this purpose, each one having a different effect on the aura and inner being. You may burn a smudge stick directly from the end (extinguish carefully afterwards), or break off fragments to burn in a container such as a shell. When smudging, try to feel connected with a power greater than yourself. You may say prayers while using a feather, or simply the palm of your hand, to brush the smoke over you.

Smudge sticks can be used for cleansing of the aura, for example before meditation or prayer, or they quite often these days used by body workers and therapists. They can also be used for cleansing a house or dwelling and are often used in this way in Feng Shui.

Californian white sage seems to have never been so popular. In comparison to desert sage (what many think of when they think of smudge sticks) it catches light more easily and has a delicate minty twang to it. People often find they prefer one or the other. We do also sell white sage loose, and you can see a link to this on the right hand side.

As a practising Native American Medicine Man in the UK this site has proved itself invaluable. This is a high quality product harvested in an environmental and sacred way, as it must be to be used to it's potential in ceremonies. Meets my needs perfectly, highly recommended.

This herb has many uses, ceremonial and otherwise, but predominantly is for clearing or cleansing. Although Grey Sage can also be used for this White Sage is a much more potent variety and the first choice for most ceremonies. My personal favorite for deep meditation (especially when the aroma is mixed with Red Willow Bark).
