Information: These boxes are hand made. In the internal compartment there are four holes, one at either end of the base and one at either end of the lid. This means up to four incencse sticks can be burned at once. The box also has two inner holders to enable the burning of incense cones. Once burning the lid can be closed and the smoke then can drift out through the perforations in the wood. There is a compartment in the underside of the box where it is possible to store up to 20 incense sticks.
We say: The craftsmanship is of a good standard. A great idea to have a storage box and burner in one. And it is attractive to have the smoke seep out with the lid closed.
Yin Yang - Black, white, male/female balance
This symbol originates from ancient Chinese understanding of how life works and maintains stability. The two shapes within the circle represent the interaction and balance between two energies - yin and yang. Yin is black - dark, passive, receptive and feminine - whilst yang is white - bright, creative, active and masculine.
The idea is that, just as in life, not everything is completely black or white. The two energies compliment, and cannot exist, without each other.
Mentions of the yin yang concept can be found in the I Ching and in forms of Chinese medicine. The symbol is very popular today and is used by many as an expression of their beliefs, as well as a mere decorative image.

By Catherine McDonnell, Penarth Lovely, I love the way the incense smoke drifts out of the lid when closed. My friend loved it to so I will be ordering one for her too.
