Singing bowls work in much the same way as a tuning fork. Tap the side of the bowl with the wooden wand and the bowl sings, or rather sends out a beautiful tone that lingers and lingers and then gently fades away. You can also make it sing by rubbing the wand in a circular motion around its edge. The art of making singing bowls originates from Tibet and Nepal where they are made with a unique blend of base metals to produce unique sounds for healing and ritual purposes. Sitting quietly and breathing deeply you may strike a bowl such as this as a signal to yourself, like a full stop, that you are now taking time to be quiet.
