They say: The healing art of Reiki is a practice that restores balance and harmony within the body by the transmission of healing energy through the hands of the practitioner, bringing relief to a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional afflictions. Richard Ellis gives us a unique perspective of the practice of Reiki by drawing on his own experiences and conclusions coupled with an in-depth, step-by-step journey through the chakras. Brilliantly and clearly illustrated by Paul Young, Reiki and the seven Chakras is written in an intimate and compelling style and represents an immeasurable contribution to the literature on Reiki.

Reiki - Gentle spiritual healing therapy
Reiki is a gentle energetic, spiritual healing therapy. “Rei” means “unseen” or “spiritual” and “Ki” means “energy” or “life force”. This is often translated as “Universal Life Energy”. The system was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century after three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama. Energy flows through the hands to the “patient” or recipient in such a way that the givers energy is not depleted. The therapist keys into the universal energy, not necessarily their own individual energy. This universal energy is seen as intelligent and will heal the patient’s energy field without exact diagnosis. Treatment can be used on people, on yourself, pets and distance healing. The system often uses “attunement” where people are attuned so that they may also give this type of healing. Often symbols are used to help key into certain aspects of this healing art.

Chakras - 7 energetic centres of human body
The chakras are major energetic centres within the human body. There are seven in total. They are:

Crown (violet-white)
Forehead (indigo)
Throat (Blue)
Heart (Green)
Solar plexus (Yellow)
Sacral (Orange)
Base (Red)

When our chakras are healthy and glowing strongly we feel good. By having about us or using chakra products, wearing chakra jewellery or using chakra stones in healing we are giving focus to this state of balance. If we have good intention we may draw situations to us that help us to change and help our chakras to find or remain in balance.

By Rachel Newcombe View Profile
This book differs from other reiki titles as it focuses in detail on the chakra system. Each of the seven chakras is discussed in depth, in an easy-to-read manner that makes it perfect for dipping into. Stephen Ellis uses personal anecdotes and tales to illustrate how and why chakras are important, which comes across well and aids understanding.

At the end of chakra section there's a useful self-assessment section covering physical and psychological/emotional issues. For example, it highlights ailments you might be experiencing if a certain chakra is blocked. It's particularly useful if you're new to, or still learning about chakras, as it really helps to get the key factors clearly into perspective. Useful exercises accompany the self-assessments, so you'll know exactly how to remedy the situation. Bringing it all together are sections dealing with first and second degree reiki and a run-down of the complete reiki treatment and the way in which it relates to the seven chakras. This is illustrated well and would be a useful resource for new reiki initiates. First and foremost, the book is most applicable to anyone involved in, or interested in, reiki, but it could also be enjoyed by someone wanting to learn more about the role of chakras in healing.

It's always said you just never judge a book by its cover, but this is one exception. The cover design by Paul Young is striking and memorable - an aspect fully reflected in the book itself.
