They say: The practice of meditation takes us on a fabulous journey into the gap between our thoughts, where all the advantages of a more peaceful, stress-free, healthy and fatigue-free life are available - but they're merely side benefits. The paramount reason for daily meditation is to get into the gap between our daily thoughts and make conscious contact with the creative energy of life itself. In this uplifting book, Dr Wayne W. Dyer explains the soul nourishing meditation techniques for making conscious contact with God, which the ancient masters have told us about.

You have the potential to be an instrument of the highest good for all concerned and to be a literal miracle worker in your own life. No person, government entity, or religious group can legitimately claim to do this for. "In fact", says Dr Dyer, "I agree with Carl Jung, who said that one of the main functions of formalized religion is to protect people against a direct experience of God." (Dr Dyer helps you have this direct experience by leading you through the meditation technique on the enclosed CD.)

When you master getting into the gap, stay there for prolonged segments of meditation, and experience what you bring back to the material world, you'll truly know the answer to the question: "Why meditate?"

This is a little book with a lot of instruction. Its subtitle is Making Conscious Contact with God Through Meditation. The book deals with a form of meditation called Japa meditation. This is based on a word meaning "to say the name of God many times" and is a sort of mantra. The "Gap" referred to in the book's title is the gap between one's thoughts. The aim of the book is simply to enable the reader to be able to meditate by reflecting on those gaps by using the Lord's Prayer in mantra form. The idea is to meditate on the words or phrases individually rather than on the meaning within those words.

There is included in the book a script of a meditation based on the Lords Prayer, or at least the first ten words of it. The book teaches how to use the expulsion of breath with an "ahh!" as the name of God. For example, the reader is asked to reflect on the word "hallowed" and then "hallowed be". The meditator then quickly meditates on the gap between those two thoughts. Then the Japa, the uttering of ahhhhhhhhhh!

What is helpful is the CD that comes with the book with the words of the meditation spoken by the writer. All that I have written may sound confusing but this CD brings some clarity. It is a lovely little book, with only 90 pages, but it is a great asset to those who wish to meditate and who wish to discover a new and different form.
