DVD: NATURAL WORLD - Medwyn Goodall

It is difficult to describe this DVD. The music, written and performed by Melvyn Goodall, is unique and a startling reminder of just how good this composer is. Each piece of music is taken from a different album so the DVD is a sort of shop window of his collection of DVDs. For those who know Goodall's work I need say no more. It conjures up lovely images but not necessarily relaxing ones. The scenery accompanying the music is beautiful but again, do not expect relaxing scenes. There is some gentility amongst it all but there are also images of lightning, of angry swirling clouds and of some rough country.

It is a pleasant DVD but it would not be suitable for meditation purposes or for relaxation after a busy day’s work. It is a celebration, however, of the vibrancy and vitality of nature. It is evocative, allowing one to reflect on the variety of nature’s gifts. I did enjoy the DVD but I could not find a way to use it for any practical spiritual purposes. I simply enjoyed looking at beautiful scenery and listening to the unusual compositions of one of our better composers.
