By Brian Stevenson View ProfileAlthough basing a deck entirely on 'White Cats' this might seem like a rather strange gimmick, this deck is in fact rather charming and very well thought out.
All of the images are based closely on the Rider-Waite, with almost all of the principal figures being white cats, dressed in bright and colourful medieval costumes. Most of the cats faces have been drawn so that they are full of life and expression. I particularly liked the rather smug appearance of the cat representing Justice and the bemused expression on the face of the cat in the 4 of Cups. Many of the cards are full of interesting and amusing detail. For example, The Fool is shown as a dog being attacked by a small cat; Strength shows a small pink-gowned white cat standing inside the mouth of a large lion and in The Sun, the young cat is cheerfully riding a child’s rocking horse.
In the accompanying booklet the deck’s author and designer set out their reasoning for basing a deck on white cats. In addition to containing a brief summary of the divinatory meanings, instructions are also given for a useful six-card 'Cats Eye' spread.
As it is so closely based on the Rider-Waite deck, I can recommend the deck to anyone, from complete beginners to experienced professionals. Of course, it does help if you also like cats, particularly white ones!
By Ann, Hereford First of all many thanks for the speed with which my order reached me and the easy use of your website. Have just received this pack today and it is a beautifully illustrated deck. Although it says in the description it is 'lighthearted, simple, fun and a little irreverent' It is true to the traditional symbolism of tarot, thus making it easy to read. Definitely not for traditionalists, but I found the artwork truly beautiful and like everything. Who says learning tarot should not be fun? If a pack draws you to it, then so long as you learn from it, go with it. There may be occasions when deeper insight from a trditional deck may be called for, but after viewing lots of different decks, I was drawn to this one. Hope this helps.
