They say: It might seem odd but if you're looking for a fun, happy, helpful, and at the same time discreet friend, you can turn to a flower. Flowers, in fact, don't stop at curing our sadness, alleviating our troubles, and giving our skin and home a nice smell, they also make salads more fun, necklines more seductive, they make love notes more tender and perhaps make the future read in the tarot even more appealing, or at least acceptable. That's how this deck, based on the secret language of flowers, their symbolism, legends, and origins, came about: ancient gods, nymphs or feys transformed into plants as a punishment or to escape bad luck.

The Floral Tarot deck consists of 78 cards, each inspired by a flower corresponding to the 78 arcana of the classic tarot: Twenty-two major and 56 minor, divided into four suits. White, the color of air, corresponds to the swords; blue (which represents water) to the chalices; red (the color of fire) to wands; and yellow (the color of the earth) to pentacles. Although set in a wooded fairy-tale world populated by feys, elves, small animals, and mushrooms, the major arcana do not stray far from traditional symbolism and therefore don't change the structure, key figures, the symbols, or tools.

This must surely be one of the most delicately illustrated decks ever produced. All the cards depict exquisitely drawn and coloured fairies with a wide variety of flowers. All the faces on the fairies are finely drawn and are full of life and expression.

The Major Arcana are slightly influenced by The Rider-Waite deck. However, although they are fully illustrated, the Minor Arcana are not based on The Rider-Waite. In fact, none of the Minor Arcana include any Cups, Pentacles, Swords or Wands! Instead, they feature different types of coloured flowers. e.g. The Cups have blue flowers, Pentacles include yellow blooms, Swords cards have white flowers and Wands feature red flowers.

There are some wry touches of humour. e.g. The Knights, who are traditionally shown riding horses, are here shown riding small mice or insects. The Devil is a bad-tempered boy fairy, dressed in pale mauve and waving a small headless grub and a miniature three-pronged pitchfork.

I would not recommend the deck for complete beginners. However, it should appeal to Tarot readers who are seeking a whimsical deck. Lovers of flowers, fairies or early-20th Century children's book illustrations will also enjoy using this deck.
