The Golden Rider pack holds all the same imagery and design as the original Rider-Waite pack. It suits my tastes that the colours are more vibrant, and the overall feel is more modern. The colouring is more painterly, than print blocked. The designs are slightly simplified so although the symbolism in each image remains, the detail is missing in some areas (such as the
swirling waters in some of the Cups cards). The design on the reverse of the cards is pleasing, calm and regal looking. Every card has some gold printing which I feel adds a sense of preciousness to the cards!

Life was made a little bit easier for me when choosing my deck because the course I was about to start recommended that you used the Rider Waite Tarot. What they were referring to was what is often termed the Original Rider Waite deck which is the original design etc. conceived by A.E. Waite and Pamela Colman Smith. But I liked the more vibrant colours of this deck and felt this one was for me. Francois Tapernoux completed the painting of the Golden Rider deck in Switzerland in 1991. For years, he studied the cards, meditating, examining all the aesthetic aspects of the original Rider Waite cards, and taking his paintings through countless evolutions as he got nearer to his final creations. His desire was to bring the highest expression of each card into a newer, more contemporary-feeling, Rider deck. The colours are more vibrant than in the original deck but all the images are the same.
I like my deck and have always stuck with it. I wonder what it would be like to use other decks but have always stuck with this because I find it comfortable for me. Other decks I like are the Connolly, Mythic and the Original Rider. I also do like the look of the Hanson-Roberts deck too. But will I change? Maybe one day if I have a life-altering experience and I find a deck that I am more attracted to. This is no better than the Original Rider Waite. It is a matter of personal choice. Some details may have been lost here and there in the translation from Original to Golden, but in other places there are new colours to work with, which......more
